2000 migrant workers stage protest at IIT Hyderabad amid lockdown

Amid nationwide lockdown, over 2000 migrant workers staged protest at IIT Hyderabad demanding to send them back to their states. They also pelted stones on police team deployed there in which one cop received minor injuries and the police vehicle was also damaged. Immediately more teams were called in and situation was taken into control. The migrant labours were not getting salaries from last three months from their contractor and they were struck here since lockdown. They demanded to send them back to their state which is not possible at this time. Few of them along with contractor were taken to Sangareddy district Collector office to solve their problems. The contractor has promised to pay them pending salaries including the salary of April month and the higher officials have also promised them to make all arrangements for their stay and food till lockdown ends.
