India, June 24 -- A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Ganesh pur village in Birbhum's Rajnagar police station area on Saturday night. The girl has been admitted to Suri Sadar hospital for treatment.

Police and family sources said that the victim did not know her attacker. Sources add that the victim was a student of Nangulia High School in Rajnagar police station area. As it was very hot on Saturday night, she slept outside the room along with other family members. "Suddenly, we were jolted awake on hearing our daughter's screams," said the victim's father.

"When I turned, I saw her coming towards me crying. She told us that she had gone to attend to nature's call, when a youth with his face hidden by a cloth, pulled her to a nearby field and raped her. She shouted for help but as everyone was asleep, no one came to her rescue, ", the father added. On Sunday, she was taken to the local block health centre from where she was referred to Suri Sadar hospital for treatment.

A police officer confirmed that a complaint has been lodged in Rajnagar police station. No one has been arrested so far.
