A ski jacket isn’t just for skiing. While they’re an essential item if you’re off to the snow and slopes (getting cold and damp will make for a miserable time), they’re also a great option for a winter coat at home as they’re full of technology to keep kids warm, dry and happy.

All the jackets featured here are waterproof and have such essential ski features as hoods, inner cuffs and decent insulation.

Increasingly, more and more jackets are being made from recycled polyester, as many of these are, and there’s a growing trend for jackets to grow with your children.

Three of the jackets here have sleeves that can be extended internally, with the aim being they’ll fit for longer than just one winter.

Priced between £35 and £135, there are options for all budgets – but to get your money’s worth opt for one your child will happily wear to school too.

When we tested these we took into account how easy it was to move in them – and it was great to find that none of them are overly bulky.

We braved the recent cold wet weather and our testers remained cosy, which is all you want from a coat.

You can trust our independent reviews. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections, which are formed from real-world testing and expert advice. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.
