Ahmedabad, Oct 17 (PTI) The number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat rose to 1,58,635 with 1,161 new cases being reported on Saturday, the state health department said.
With the death of nine COVID-19 patients, the death toll rose to 3,629, it said.
At the same time, recoveries exceeded new cases.
With 1,270 patients being discharged during the day, the total number of recovered cases rose to 1,40,419, the department said in its release.
This improved the state's recovery rate to 88.52 percent.
52,746 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 53,22,288.
Surat reported the highest number of 239 new cases in the state, followed by Ahmedabad with 183 cases, Vadodara with 117 and Rajkot with 108 cases.
Among other districts, Jamnagar reported 74 new cases, Junagadh and Mehsana 41 each, Patan 33, Bharuch 27, Sabarkantha 24, Morbi 21, Amreli and Surendranagar 20 each, Gir Somnath 18, Banaskantha and Kheda 17 each, Narmada and Panchmahal 16 each, Kutch 15, Dahod and Mahisagar 12 each.
Out of nine deaths reported on Saturday, Rajkot reported three, Ahmedabad and Surat two each and Gir Somnath and Vadodara one each.
The state now has 14,587 active cases, out of which79 patients are on ventilator, the department said in its release.
The adjoining Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli has reported a total 3,156 cases so far, out of which 3,095 have been discharged.
Two persons have died till now due to coronavirus in the UT while there are 59 active cases.
Three new cases were reported in Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DNH), and no new case was reportedin either Daman or Diu on Saturday, officials said. As many as ten patients recovered, seven in DNH, and three in Daman, they said.
