New Zealand school teaches Sanskrit and claims it helps children understand English

Nevada (US), Jan 25 (ANI): A school in New Zealand has a 'Sanskrit Language Studies' program and claims that learning Sanskrit accelerates a child's reading ability.

Ficino School in Mt Eden area of Auckland (New Zealand), calls itself a 'values-based academic institution' and offers education for girls and boys from year one to eight. It says about Sanskrit: "It has a wonderful system of sound and grammar, which gives the child an excellent base for the study of any language. Children love its order and beauty."

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed has applauded Ficino School for fostering universal virtues and encouraging Sanskrit studies and adds that Sanskrit has a close relationship with other classical languages like Latin, Greek, French, German, etc.

According to Peter Crompton, principal of this school founded in 1997, where curriculum includes "food for the mind, food for the spirit, food for the body", "Sanskrit with its almost perfect grammatical system...provides children with a roadmap for understanding English." Sanskrit not only gives young learners a clear understanding of the structure of language, it also heightens their awareness of the process of speech, creating a greater understanding of and ability to, enunciate words clearly, Crompton adds.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, pointed out that Sanskrit should be restored to its rightful place. It needed to be brought to the mainstream and hidden scientific truths in ancient Sanskrit literature should be brought to light, he said.

Rajan Zed strongly criticized India Government for not doing enough for Sanskrit language. He asked India Government to do much more for the development, propagation, encouragement and promotion of Sanskrit in India and the world, which was essential for the development of India and preservation of its cultural heritage. Sanskrit also provided the theoretical foundation of ancient sciences.

Besides Hindu scriptures, a vast amount of Buddhist and Jain scriptures were also written in Sanskrit, which is known as "the language of the gods". According to tradition, self-born God created Sanskrit, which is everlasting and divine. The oldest scripture of mankind still in common use, Rig-Veda, was written in Sanskrit, Zed added.

Mahatma Gandhi said, "Without the study of Sanskrit, one cannot become a true learned man." German philologist Max Muller added, "Sanskrit is the greatest language of the world." (ANI)

Shreeman, You are yet to read real Upanishads or truly 'relate' to Hinduism beyond just having 'read' it....else you will only talk, think and percolate goodness as much as possible than the words used here for....another religion. FYI, I am purported to be a Hindu, know little bit of Sanskrit and still way far away to read 'REAL' upanishads, etc.

We indians dont value what we have, we always throw our old gold for someones new iron gets rusted. we need to realize the value and importance of our vedic knowledge that is gift of sages for the generations to follow.
we just read and forgot, please go for it "GO BACK TO VEDAAS" as well as for other Indian scriptures.

Sir, Vedas are not at our back. these are much more in advance than us. Let us turn towards Vedas to excel.

The western white monkeys study Vedas, write books on Vedas and sell them in India. They preach that Vedas are not Indian. Since Vedas are called "apaurusheya", i.e. not written my any human being but knowledge given by Gods, these western white monkeys argue that God is not privilege of India and hence Vedas are not Indian.

Why do you want to go back? Oh, O forgot, the Vedas contain everything, from philospohy to advanced science and mathematics, including how to build planes, nuclear bombs, go to the moon, cure cancer etc. Modern science is yet to catch up

We still are the slaves of English mentality..Nobody still knows that when we will get the independence from this one..If a person knows English then he is a brilliant person but if the person is talking in Hindi or any other regional language then he is a fool and a dirty person from whom nobody from a big corporate house will ever like to talk..

I seriously have doubts that we will ever be able to change this mentality..It will be changed only when we will pay money to English people for learning our local language..till than it is impossible that our so called HIGHLY EDUCATED RICH English speaking section of Indian society will ever change their mentality...THEY ARE SLAVES MENTALLY AND THEY WILL REMAIN SLAVES TILL PEOPLE FROM THE UK/USA WILL TAKE MONEY FROM THESE PEOPLE TO MAKE THEM UNDERSTAND WHAT OUR INDIAN CULTURE AND LANGUAGE IS...

What are you speaking in English, why aren't you speaking in Hindi?? Oh that's right, maybe it's because you felt that speaking in English would be the best way to get your point across. Well guess what, that's what today's world consists of, one dominant language which the whole world can use in common, and sorry for your dissapointment, but English won out. If you want to move along with the rapidly changing world then learn English, otherwise don't and stay in the shell of person you are.

wow..people abroad are keen in learning our main language.. SANSKRIT.. and in Indian schools and colleges, its a optional subject...Atleast the basics of this subject should be taught in our schools, if not more.

"India was the Motherland of our race and Sanskrit the Mother of Europe's languages.India was the Mother of our Philosophy, of much of our Mathematic's, of the ideals embodied in Christianity ...of Self-Government and Democracy, In many ways Mother India is the Mother of us all.." ~ Will Durant

The Hindu Scriptures, Samskrita, Yoga, Ayurveda are all divine gifts that Indians have protected for the benefit of the world. It is a tragedy that today things are such that everyone except Indians are benefiting from this. Indian Government is committed to destroying everything of pride about India and verily Indian culture itself. Why Indians keep inviting Congress to form a government to continue to oppress and abuse India is beyond me.

Sanskrit is the mother of almost all languages , because when sanskrit originated there was hardly any other language . it is rich , scientific and phonetic in the sense it creates proper resonance in mind when a word is uttered. Successive Indian governments starting from that of Jawaarlal Nehru has relegated this language to oblivion .It shows that persons who headed these governments were not properly learned .Time has now come to give Sanskrit its due place in India .

“Land of religions, cradle of human race, birthplace of human speech, grandmother of legend, great grandmother of tradition. The land that all men desire to see and having seen once even by a glimpse, would not give that glimpse for the shows of the rest of the globe combined. India had the start of the whole world in the beginning of things. She had the first civilization; she had the first accumulation of material wealth; she was populous with deep thinkers and subtle intellect; she had mines, and woods, and a fruitful soul." ~ Mark Twain

It is a shameful fact that we Indians are not respecting our rich great ancieint hairatage. Sanskrit is the most scientific language in the world. She has the richest word power.A simple example- there are 800 words (synomames) for Water and there are 400 names for Fire-i.e. Agni. Can you imagine there are 1000 names of God Shankar , and God Vishnu and fof Devi Mataji 1000 names and so on....Like theese Veds Upanishads Purans ....Endless literature. This is because India is ruled by Congress for more than 40 years and unfortunatly Congress is against Hindus for vote bank politics. There is no hope, can only be possible if some pure petriotic DESHABHAKTA ruler gov. may imerged.Let us pray God.!

I am very much glad to know that the Language of our ancestors is alive on earth(of course it will be there as long as humans exist on earth). Even Max. Muller learned to understand glorious Hindu culture. Yes, It is true. If Indians learn and speak Sanskrit, can achieve the glory which ancient India had. It was also heard that he Sanskrit is the most suitable language to work on Computers!! Instead we are running towards useless languages and cultures.

Sanskrit is a great and wonderful language.Reading and writing is wonderful experience.Let alone that enunciating and listening to it gives us a sort of solace to mind.As such it should be continued amongst us till this civilisation exists on this earth.

SANSKRIT is not only the mother of indian languages but almost all the world languages, including arabic, persian urdu etc.,its a great shame that indian govt. to appease some, deliberately destroyed this language from the gods.

Every single major invention that will shape the coming century will be based on ideas and things explained in the Vedas. While the global scientific community embraces the Samskrita literature as a great source of knowledge and wisdom, they make progress. The Anti-India pseudo intellectuals meanwhile are active in India trying to portray everything Indian , all the Indian sciences as superstition. Not surprisingly these pseudo-intellectuals know nothing about science. to them science is something they follow blindly as a superstition. To them science is something a white fellow in a tie proclaims. Ironically that white fellow is 'scientifically' digesting the Vedas and furiously shaping his inventions based on Vedic knowledge.

The moment an Indian praises, although rightfully so, anything of true Indian origin especially from Vedic periods he is branded as Hindu fanatic. Unless consorted efforts are made at government level to come out of this mind set up, which at the moment seems very unlikely to happen anytime in near future, things are bound to worsen. May HE himself bring out the change.
