Hyderabad, June 14 (ANI): YSR Congress Party on Thursday rejected the proposed hike of Rs 170 in Minimum Support Price (MSP) of paddy, saying the effective hike was only Rs 90 and the announcement was against the interest of the farmers.
"Without taking into consideration the previous year bonus of Rs 80, the hike in MSP was announced as Rs 170 and the loyal Chief Minister termed the hike as a good move by the Centre but in fact the hike is just an eyewash to the farming community," YSRCP Farmers Cell convener, MVS Nagi Reddy, told media here.
Reddy further said the Congress Government in the state has been adopting an anti-farmer stand and has failed to check the growing prices of agriculture inputs besides supply of quality seeds and fertilizers, and added that the Jalayagnam was put on the back burner and many projects were left untendered.
"YSRC stands for farmers cause and will take up the issue at various levels," he added.
The Union Agriculture Ministry has circulated a cabinet note among various ministries recommending MSP of Rs 1,250 per quintal for common variety paddy and Rs 1,280 per quintal for a grade variety of paddy of the 2012-13 crop year.(ANI)
