New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS) A 22-year-old youth was arrested for attempting to rape a minor girl at a marriage in north Delhi, police said Saturday.
The accused, identified only as Avinash, was caught while trying to rape the minor, who had gone to a marriage ceremony with her parents, in Jahangirpuri area Friday night.
He was thrashed by the people and later handed over to police.
According to police, Avinash was known to the victim's family as he lived near their house. Seeing the girl alone as her parents were busy in the ceremony, he took her to a secluded place on the pretext of giving her some eatables and attempted to rape her but she cried out for help.
Hearing her screams, a local resident raised an alarm. People reached the spot and rescued the girl.
A case has been registered, a police official said.
