Venice and India by music and play

National English School (NES) organised a cultural programme, Symphony, on the completion of 12 years, at the Science City Main Auditorium on January 18. The celebration started with a welcome song, Rhythm, composed by in-house teacher Pulok Mondal and presented by the school choir.

Before the cultural programme started, there was a prize-distribution ceremony in association with The Telegraph. Students of the school's two branches at Baguiati and Rajarhat were awarded for excellence in academics and extra-curricular activities.

The cultural programme that followed tried to capture the heritage of India. The nursery section presented a musical, Dreamz. Dressed as the moon, stars, flowers, animals, musicians and even football players, the little ones asked parents to let them follow their dreams and choose a profession of their choice, through a song-and-dance routine.

Students of classes I to IV paid homage to the freedom fighters of India through Glimpses of Glorious India. The senior section students enacted the court scene from William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice.

The best performance of the evening was Incredible India. The students upheld the theme of unity in diversity by representing dances of various regions of India. Finally, the whole school sang the national anthem to commemorate its centenary.
