Uttar Pradesh to vote in second round Saturday

Lucknow, Feb 10 (IANS) The second round of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, whose outcome is bound to affect national politics, will take place Saturday, involving 1.97 crore voters in 59 constituencies.

With campaigning for the second of seven rounds ending Thursday evening, the Election Commission gave finishing touches to the arrangements for the 10-hour balloting.

The voters will decide the fate of 1,098 candidates in the second round. The staggered polling began Feb 8.

Fifty-nine of the state's 403 assembly constituencies will go to the polls, against 55 in the first phase.

Saturday's constituencies are spread across nine districts -- Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Ballia, Ghazipur, Maharajganj, Deoria, Mau, Sant Kabir Nagar and Kushinagar. Most of them are located along the Bihar border.

A high 62 percent voted Feb 8 on the first day of the crucial battle for Uttar Pradesh involving primarily four actors -- the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party, Samajwadi Party, Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress.

Saturday will see 20,426 polling stations and some 20,800 electronic voting machines (EVM).

"Since there are 32 constituencies with more than 16 candidates, an extra EVM has been installed in these places," said state chief electoral officer Umesh Sinha.

"We have made special arrangements on our website to facilitate easy location of polling stations," he said.

Informed sources said over 120,000 officials, including 55,000 paramilitary forces and 10,000 Provincial Armed Constabulary personnel, would be deployed Saturday.

Votes polled in Uttar Pradesh will be counted March 6 -- along with those of Goa, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Punjab.

People shiuld avoid BSP as it is instrumental to accelerate cast politics in UP. Her slogan " Tripathi, Tribedi aur Talwar, Inko Maro Jute Char" must not be forgot by any Hindus. Let Dalits too avoid this party. SP should be avoided because of the past misdeeds of Molla Mulayam .It is acting against Hindu OBC interest too by claiming 18% reservation for OBC Muslims . If Certain section of Muslims are declared OBC, and become elligible for reservation along with Hindu OBC, none probably raised any objection. But cutting 15% quota from 27% quota of all OBC , it clearly shows the game plan of SP" Never vote for Congress as it is anti Hindu and their 4.5% reservation of Muslims from 27% OBC reservation again proves how strong , Congress anti Hindu Policy has become. So, it is primarily responsibility of all OBC of UP to see their interest is not diluted in any form and probably, BJP is the best option for their interest at least in this election.

It's really unfortunate that the state which produced most of the great leaders of India is now ruled by Mulayams & Mayas. I'm not saying that others are good but UP should have produced better leaders. I think people of UP should ignore all issues and should vote in favor of development only. I don't mind who is coming in to power but whoever wins the election should concentrate on development.

Never include Assam's name. Being an original resident of Assam, it was conspiracy of ISI which influenced ULFA to deport Hindi speaking people so that more and more Bangladeshi Muslims get opportunity to infiltrate and grab those manual jobs vacated by Hindi speaking people. Ask any Assamese and you will get identical answer every where in Assam. A deep conspiracy by Pakistani lobby caught in a right time. Today, there is no ULFA and no Anti Hindi riots and will never be too.
