Allepey (Kerala), Apr 9 (ANI): Dome of an under construction catholic church collapsed in Alleppey district of Kerala on Monday, in which, one worker was killed and few others were injured.
A legislator, AM Arif said that all the necessary steps have been taken by the authorities to rescue the trapped victims.
"Seven people have been injured and were rushed to the Lashkar hospital. One person named Vishwanathan hailing from Bihar died. Few injured are in a medical college. Another injured have been found out and the search is still in progress. According to the staff of church, at the time when the dome collapsed, nearly 20 people were there and if their information is correct, three are still missing," he said.
The incident occurred when the construction work of a new church adjacent to the existing old Saint Augustine Church was taking place.
Suddenly, the dome collapsed and around twenty workers were suspected to be trapped below the rubble, according to church staff.
The injured were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital.
Police, fire fighters and local villagers carried out search and rescue operation.
A FIR (First Information Registered) had been lodged against the contractor executing the work, and he is yet to be arrested.
Recently, a building had collapsed in Mumbai, in which 72 people were killed. (ANI)
