    Ukrainian girls may be jailed for insulting Indian flag

    Kiev, Feb 18 (IANS) A group of Ukrainian topless protesters may face jail term up to four years for climbing onto the balcony of the Indian embassy in Kiev and tearing down India's national flag last month, said police Friday.

    The protesters had brought down the Indian flag, smashed the doors and windows with it and threw it on the ground.

    The activists were enraged by the Indian Foreign Ministry ordering thorough checks into all Ukrainians aged 15 to 40 seeking to enter the country, saying it would help weed out the numerous prostitutes in search of a job, the RIA Novosti reported Friday.

    The incident resulted in two cases opened on separate charges of hooliganism and desecration of state symbols, Ukrainian police said.

    But no one was charged as of Friday evening.

    The incident had occurred Jan 19.

    The Indian ambassador to Ukraine, Rajiv K. Chander, was not at his residence when the four women from Femen arrived in Indian attire and stripped to their waists before using a ladder to reach the second-floor balcony, an Indian media report said.

    The women tied a banner in English to the balcony that declared: "We are not prostitutes". They also carried placards in English and Russian that said "Delhi, close your brothels" and "We demand apologies".

      how can u say that all ukraninan women indulge in such work? so first any Govt must watch the words what they going to talk about any person n community as well as any nation, its shame to say all ukraninas are prostitute, well but these girls also should have respact indian flag too, this matter must be solve in healthy n friendly environment, n most of indians wish be friendly with ukranian ppl, love india n love ukrain too :)

        Arvind, you are very right. They are humnas, too. Most of us may not like their alternative lifestyle but there are often compulsions like poverty and unemployment which drives some women to it. It is circumstances which force them to take up this trade. Instead of pitying them, some people are just spewing hatred against them. But the irony is, most of those who express hatred towards prostitutes are the ones who secretly patronise their services. Hypocricy at its peak.

      Any day i respect prostitutes more than entertainers (cricketers, sports people, actors, media artists, musicians) and politicians . Thye former works hard with her body toearn a living. The latter rob those who work hard with their body and / or intellect and make themselves billions while ruing millions of productive man hours. Alas . They are the one who get Bharat Rathna and all PAdma awards. A huge shame on every Indian

Why government allows endorsement expenses as tax deductible and endorsement income as taxable at the rates of "Actor"

        You should be banned from coming back to India with such an primitive mindset. Prostitution happens everywhere . Fact. It happens because there are people who seek them and it is rampant in all parts of the world. It is unfair to judge a country and have them go through ridiculous check ups because the govt is afraid there might be prostitutes who wanna make money in India. There are Indians who work as commercial sex workers in other parts of the world..say dubai for instance .. just imagine how you would feel if the UAE made it compulsory to have your wives and sisters go through a complete check up because they feel some of you might end uo as prostitutes there.... ???

      Another show of indian hypocrisy yet again.Doesn't india have prostitutes?I read so many articles and reports in the papers about flesh rackets here in our own country.And believe me, i don't think women from western countries,which are mostly developed countries, will come to india, a 'developing' country just to become prostitutes.Why, they don't have any reason to come to a country like india.I think the indian government is too full of itself...hypocrites...

        I find lot of the comments here very naive and warped. Do you realize how many Indian men and women get denied US visas everyday? Do you know what percent? Now if these women and men started vandalizing US embassy and attempting to tear up the flag, they would be shot DEAD. They would be KILLED. And at point these same hypocrites would be talking about how US is justified in doing what they do. Indian Government and Indian flag ought to mean something!! These ladies were criminals who attacked the Indian embassy. They deserve to be treated accordingly.

        well they are most of them (with a few exceptions) the whole world knows that ... a lot of countries do not allow them easy entry and in some middle east countries they are not welcome ! but they never burnt these country's flag why only India???!!! LOL ....but whether or not they should be humiliated for being prostitutes is a different matter.

      These women were offended, and they tore the national flag not out of disrespect for the flag but because they were humiliated very badly ... it was more of a reaction than any disrespect .. India's respect lies in the respect of women .. without the respect towards women the national flag is just a piece of cloth .. There should be a formal apology from our country to these women .. Being a citizen of India I apologize to these young ladies for any offence that our foriegn ministry causes to them.

      Their acts justify our decision. I'm just back from Hampi where I saw the unforgivable act of a foreign woman posing semi nude with some teen boys for them to take photos of her - INSIDE Virupaksha temple campus! These kids had to be driven away, but the woman was laughing shamelessly. ( She was was not rebuked by locals considering she is a guest)

      We Indians are most hypocrite in this world. Ukraininas burnt our flag because we called them prostitutes. If Ukraine had called Indian women prostitutes then we would have probably burnt their embassy. We behave as though there are no prostitutes in India. Prostitutes are much much much better than politicians. Also, we make so much noise over they burning our flag. What about when we Indians burn other countries' flags in Delhi infront of their embassies? Is that not crime?

      The politicians don't care about the terrorists infiltrating the country.. they are worried more about prostitutes coming in. They visit prostitutes directly on their "foreign trips" using tax payers money. But they wanna show that they are "good" men to the people of India. Funny. Stop terrorists coming in and be hard on indians who harbour terrorists, Is that politically incorrect? Will it dwindles your vote-banks?
      Prostitutes come in because there are buyers here in India. Where there is no market, there is no product. And if 2 people indulge in sex consensually, whats the problem? Whether money is involved or not! Atleast it is is not like rape where someone is forced. Indian govt needs to grow up. They are diverting attention from the bigger problem of terrorists.
