Guwahati, Jan. 29: Kalyan Das bagged a double crown in the 14th India Club Open Tennis Championship that concluded at the India Club courts here today.
The duo of Das and Rajeeb Bora sweated it out to get the better of Rajiv Dutta and Nabarun Saikia 7-5, 6-3 in the seniors' doubles (above-35 years) final.
In the seniors' doubles (above-55 years) final, Das teamed up with Dipak Das to defeat the tandem of Sankar Dutta Lahkar and S. Rajkhowa 8-5.
Earlier, in a tight under-14 boys' final, Raunak Bora edged past Ankeet Kashyap 6-2, 4-6. 7-5.
Yesterday, Raunak defeated Rituraj Gogoi 6-3, 6-2 while Ankeet fought it out againt Arnabjan Lahkar 6-3, 4-6 in the semi-finals.
In the under-12 boys' singles final, Ronit Bora had a cakewalk as he posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tanay Bagree.
In the boys' under-18 summit clash today, Sahidul Islam made light work of Raunak Bora, posting a facile 6-1, 6-4 win. In the girls' under-14 singles final, Naziya Ahmed outplayed rival Anisha Sarma 6-2, 6-0. In the under-18 title clash, Marisha Dutta had it easy against Rizwana Begum, posting a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Yesterday, Marisha had defeated Manaswini Hazarika 6-4, 6-0 in the semi-finals while Rizwana had it easy against Murchana Saharia 6-3, 6-0 in the other match.
In the men's singles final today, Tutu Thapa had to sweat it out with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Sahidul Islam.
The tandem of Anshuman Dutta and C.S. Mohanty outplayed Tutu and Rupam Boro 6-1, 6-1 for the men's doubles title. In the seniors' mixed doubles (above-35), Rishiraj Das and Purabi Bhuyan edged past Rajiv Dutta and Bobeeta Langthasa 8-6.
Trophies, scholarships and gifts were presented to the winners and finalists at the concluding function of the all-India ranking tennis meet.
Coaching camp
A 10-day advanced tennis coaching programme will be held at the North East Tennis Foundation courts, Dispur, tomorrow.
Coach Peter Vijay Kumar will conduct the programme.
Umpires' Day: The First Umpire's Day will be held at Guwahati Press Club on Tuesday.
The day, which will be held to mark the 76th birth anniversary of Suren Ram Phookun, the first ICC umpire from Assam, is being organised jointly by Assam Sports Association, Assam Socio-Cultural Association and Pragjyoti Communications.
