Truck falls off flyover

A Liluah-bound truck, loaded with bricks, fell off a flyover connecting Foreshore Road with Vidyasagar Setu on Wednesday morning.

The driver lost control and smashed into the railings before falling 10 feet into a deserted area, said cops. The driver and the cleaner were injured and admitted to Howrah District Hospital.

nHS deadline: Sixty-seven schools across the state, which did not hold the Higher Secondary practical examination by January 20, will have to do so by February 10, announced Muktinath Chatterjee, the HS council's president, on Wednesday. The schedule for the practical exams was between January 4 and 20. The council has extended the last date of registration and enrolment to February 8.

nSuicide: A boy and a girl ' both Class VIII students ' jumped off the third floor of a flat in Madhyamgram, North 24-Parganas, on Wednesday evening. The girl died and the boy is in a critical condition in a nursing home in Barasat. A suicide note has been found.

nCop kills himself: Sahadeb Mondal, 24, a constable of the Calcutta Armed Police, shot himself with his service rifle at Writers' Buildings on Wednesday night, minutes before the end of his shift. Police said Mondal was on duty in front of Block G, near gate No. 3. He was admitted to SSKM Hospital, where he later died.

nMetro suicide: Metro services were disrupted when a youth jumped to his death at Jatin Das Park station on Wednesday evening. He was declared dead at SSKM Hospital. The service was suspended between Maidan and Tollygunge from 6 to 6.32pm.
