TRADE REPORT: Sridevi's English Vinglish disappoints at the BO

New Delhi, Oct. 6 -- Despite getting huge critical reception, Sridevi's comeback vehicle English Vinglish could not sizzle the domestic box office. The film did better business at multiplexes. On its first day, the movie collected Rs. 2.80 crore. The movie started with the occupacy of about 20% but picked up in the late evening shows to about 35%. Multiplexes and other urban centers showed this growth, reports Koimoi.com.

"Sridevi's English Vinglish will highly depend on the collections of multiplexes to make a decent number at the box office. It is surprising that both this Friday's releases could show no magic at the box office and OMG Oh My God still continues to rule the same," reports the trade website.

CRITICS' TAKE

Sridevi is the hero of the film, the loving mother, yearning wife, earnest student. Without being too preachy, or overdramatised, the narrative is perfectly balanced. As writer and director Gauri Shinde's first film, English Vinglish is remarkable, feel critics. READ REVIEWS
