Tibetan PM-in-exile urges China not to interfere in Indo-Tibetan matters

Kolkata, Jan 21 (ANI): Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile, Lobsang Sangay, has urged China not to interfere in Indo-Tibetan matters and stop advising Indian authorities whom to meet and not to meet.

Sangay, who was in West Bengal's Kolkata city to attend an event on Friday, told mediapersons that it is immoral on the part of China to interfere and advise the Governor of West Bengal whom to meet or not to meet.

"China should not dictate terms like that because India is a sovereign country; whatever India decides it's their matter. So, a counselor carrying a letter and interfering with whom the Governor of West Bengal meets, I think they should keep it to themselves," said Sangay.

China has villified Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, for over a decade, accusing him of a campaign to split the Himalayan region from the rest of China. The Dalai Lama, however, says that he is only seeking increased autonomy for Tibet.

"Well, his holiness the Dalai Lama is an honoured guest of India and it is for the Indian people to decide whom to invite and whom not to invite and I think Chinese counselors should keep their views to themselves because India is a sovereign country and Indian people will decide what they want to do," added Sangay. In about 12 years Tibet will be an independent country, and so would be several provinces of the so called main China. China can not hang on to the current system of governance in a modern world. Access to information to Chinese people and to peoples of Chinese controlled territories will ensure that China is going to become many countries like the former Soviet Union. It is good for the Chinese people and the rest of the world. It will make Pakistan a less of a terrorist exporting country without the Chinese behind them.

But, as an Indian, I sincerely suggest to the Tibetans not to learn politics from Indian politicians. When they get freedom, they should implement a better form of democracy that suits their specific culture and economic conditions and that way, one of the only population in the world with amazing forbearance and rectitude coupled with philosophy of nonviolence must not go the way India has gone.

They should encourage tourism without compromising their good culture just for money. They should encourage business, trade and manufacture without damaging their environment. They should modernize without becoming trapped in gross materialism. They should have a democratic welfare state without getting into debt trap due to corruption or populism. And finally, they should uphold the Tibetan knowledge base and spiritual strengths not letting that be hijacked by money making western corporates. They should have a foreign policy of being friendly with not just India and the free world, but even with China. Millions of ordinary Chinese follow Buddhism and love Tibetan systems including medicine. So, they will have economic gains by being neutral to all their main future neighbors, India, Nepal, and China particularly.

Tibet has a great future, even if it is going to be difficult. The Tibetans are capable of taking care of themselves, especially if they do not learn politics from any other country, including ours.

If USA is a true democracy loving and promoting democracy in other nations, as they claim, should do the following. If not USA' such claim is a false and shows its double standard.
      1. Recognize Tabet as a soverign nation.
      2. Help Tibet with finance, defence and infrastructure.
      3. Bring back all the consumer goods, electrical and electronic manufacturing units from
China to USA. This solve unemployment problem in USA.
      4. Help India to build her defense to face and counter China's land occupation move.
      5. Raise the issue of human rights violation by China in UN.
      6. Help India to become a permanent Security Council Member.

If, USA do all the above, then they can claim as a democracy saving nation as they claim.

Well said. Also, the whole world, led by the US, should ensure that China is thrown out of the UN Security Council permanent position for being the grossest abuser of human rights in Tibet, Xinkiang, Inner Mongolia, and even in China itself (Tiannamen Square included)

Well said meena and hindu. But in reality china is ruling US indirectly, US economy is in bad shape and china is making use of it for its benefits. US cannot stand against china as long as it depends on china. China is an octopus that knows no laws or humanity. It will meet its end by itself because all that goes up should come down. It is nature's law and also god's.

Great comment, greater statemanship! The right thinking Indian people are solidly behind Tibetan urge for an independent nation of it's own. Like USSR turning Russia, it's time for China to get out of Tibet and look to affairs purely Chinese in nature!

Keep up the good work Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile, Lobsang Sangay,

Tibet has been historically independent. If british rule extended all over the world a few decades ago that is not a good reason for it to continue isn't it? If ancient china was large .. it still is much distant past. The chineese model is in confrontation with modern states.. Ancient India was twicw as big as itis today.. in line with Chineese logic, India must start to re-0ccupy these independent countries.. Is not china against this? How can this logic be valid for china and not others?
Peace on this planet is at risk with the chineese model. it time its model got reversed for the peace of the world... Chineese please wakre up and ignore your power hungry, blinded single party revolution. While your military might expansion is ok, your design is not ok and that is why the rest of the world is turning against you. Sanctity of borders as they are is mandatory. McMohan line is dated and recorded at India's Independence ras was independent Tibet. That truth needs to be accepted and the world will work with you.. else it will work at hurting you while it hurt s at your economic might today.
The maos are not working for the proletariat any more... they are working for selfish needs of its myopic and greedy leaders!!!

What is the right of china by humiliating the sovereignty of Tibetans and its nationality.Indian government should issue separate paper visa to Tibetans not in Chinese passport.

India should strongly support the fugitive Tibetians in their fight for freeddom from chinese, by harping on the theme of 'Auntonomous Region'.

Lobsang Sangay is correct and right of course!!! It is shameful that Indian Government does not realize this by itself and that Indian government acts spinelessly when it comes to international matters. The attitude of Indian Government reflects poorly on Indian Citizens. it makes the world think that Indian Citizens are spineless.
    • JP  •  4 months ago
Well firstly the comments should have come from the Govt of India. The Chinese are belligerent in their attitude towards everyone. They need to tone themselves down and behave in a more humane way. In any case they have no right to be in Tibet - they must get out of Tibet. In todays world Tibet is the most glaring example of human subjugation and destruction of human values. FREE TIBET.

Well said Lobsang.China better stop interfering in India's internal affairs. And please Indian politicians , turn a deaf ear to what the "Red"brother is saying.
    • Arya  •  4 months ago
I am disheartened to see all the comments that make this a free Tibet issue. What the Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile, Lobsang Sangay, is saying is an issue of Indian sovereignty. Do Indians realize that Sovereignty of India is at stake here. This ain't about Tibet.
      • indian 4 months ago
though this news isn't about tibet , what underlies the nasty behaviour of china is nothing but tibet
      • Bee 4 months ago
This is about Tibet. Chinese or any worthwhile world power for that matter, can not really afford a move that would gobble up SOVEREIGNTY of another country. That is the fact of modern world. No one can territorially EXPAND, including America.

So, all a country can do is only hold on to what it has been possessing that too with great difficulty. The future is TRADE, merger or federationalization of smaller countries, break up of artificial nations sustaining on the power of gun, like China and Pakistan in South Asian context.

But, well our politicians should demonstrate that they have all the vital nerves.
SM Krishna, from my glorious state of Karnataka is a misfit as much as Manmohan Singh and most of his colleagues are. They are all either puppets of Sonia exclusively or money-hungry monsters in addition to being her puppets, with absolutely no regard to our National interests. Sad. But, We should never lose hopes for change. It's possible if we make constant conscious and conscientious efforts.
      • Arya 4 months ago
Bee, this is NOT about Tibet. The news article is about the Tibetian PM making comments about sovereignty of India. He is saying that Chinese should not be telling the Indian how to act. Please read the article again. Other than this vital point, I mostly agree about what you have said. And Indian above, your point is noted an concurred with.

The greatest mistake India did in past as foreign policy when Nehru said Tibet is part of China and he allowed to invade by Chinese and the result is today. Giving asylum to Dalai Lama we should have help the to fight with China as we did in Bangla Desh. Though we have never invaded any country but we should do justice if some ambitious country tries to crush some people of some region. Tibet has been a separate nation and India should fight to UN for this.

China is the aggressor, and the Gov. of India needs to be more assertive, in its response to China, further the only way this belligerent country is going to listen is to compete or check mate on every aspect, weaponry sophistication, to industrialization to space program, infrastructure and every conceivable aspect of this modern day era. The gov. must develop some balls if you can ask for help I am sure there are countries only too willing.
