Archers Tarundeep Rai and Laishram Bombayala Devi showed their class on Day Two of the 32nd Sahara Senior (recurve and compound) National Archery Championship on Thursday rewriting as many as three meet records. The meet is underway at Jamshedpur's JRD Tata Sports Complex.
Rai, who is representing Services Sports Control Board, notched up a score of 357 to beat Mangal Singh Champia's previous meet record by one point on Thursday, Bombayala rewrote team mate Reena Kumari's record of 337 points by notching 345.
While Rai competed in the men's 30mt-recurve section, Bombayala broke the record in the same category in the women's 50mt section.
The in-form Bombayala, who would be representing the country in London Olympic Games, later went on to better Dola Banerji's record of 331 points in the women's 60mt recurve category by scoring 333 points and slotting home the gold. Dola Banerji earlier held the record in this category.
Nagaland's Chekrovolu Swuro and Laxmi Rani Majhi of Railways took the silver and bronze medals in the 50mt category by scoring 327 and 322 points respectively.
Rai on the other hand edged out Chaibasa's Mangal and Assam's Sanjay Boro to claim his gold medal. Though Mangal and Boro both managed to notch up 355 points each in the event, the former was declared second owing to the number of times he managed to hit the bullseye.
Rai, who is the most experienced archer taking part in the competition, also slotted home the gold medal in the 70mt recurve event by beating competition from team mate Rajiv Basumatary.
Tata Archery Academy cadet, who was drubbed by manipuri's Devi earlier, compensated her loss by claiming the gold in the 30mt recurve category.
Tata Archery Academy's Atanu Das also claimed the top slot in the men's recurve 50 mt, by scoring 337 points.
Tarundeep (335 points) and Thupuvoyi Swuro (335 points) finished second and third, respectively in the category.
