Three-four players have played their last Test: Gavaskar

Adelaide, Jan 27 (IANS) Lashing out against the non-performing seniors, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that three seniors have played their last Test series for the country.

As India head towards their second successive 4-0 whitewash in seven months, Gavaskar said it was time to show the door to some of the seniors and blood young players.

"I think at least three or four players might have played probably their last Test in Australia. I am saying this because India's next Test is six-eight months away. Now the selectors should pick youngsters who would serve the country in the years down the line," Gavaskar said.

Asked to pick youngsters, who could replace the seniors, Gavaskar said: "That's selectors' job, not mine."

Taking a dig at India, Gavaskar said India will at last have the opportunity to score more runs than the Australians in the second innings of the fourth and the final cricket Test.

"Australia declared their second innings at 166 for five and India were 166 for six at stumps today. So if India score two more runs tomorrow they will be ahead of Australia in the second innings," he said.

"Indian batsmen got bogged under pressure. There's some sort of defeatist attitude hanging around, even the most experienced players have been affected by it. There was an air of resignation. There was nothing like let's fight back, get down to doing something. That's why they are on the verge of their eight successive Test defeat overseas," Gavaskar was quoted as saying by a TV channel.

Gavaskar said that Kohli, who struck a century in the first innings in Adelaide, should have batted at No.3 in the second innings.

"Yes, he should have been promoted to number three. That opportunity has been missed. That (number three) is going to be his number in the years to come and he should have been given that number three slot in Adelaide," said Gavaskar.

"Virat scored a hundred in Australia, the lone player to do so. May be his confidence could have stemmed the rot and might have protected the senior players who have been sorely out of form. They (seniors) could have been protected by him (Virat) and who knows the senior players would have done better in the last couple of days in Adelaide," he said.

I think Sunil Gawaskar would be grossly unfair if he does not recommend removal of Sachin alongwith other three as well.
let the Merits prevail atleast now when the facts are there to support.
Let Sachin go home and realx and teach Cricket to younger lots.
      Thanks.

Why senior should retire. They can now play test match against
scotland, ireland, kenya, bermuda, bangladesh (these countries
should be given status to play test matches immediately if not)
and play in India to retain the rankings and achieve laurels. By
mistake the team should not visit these countries to avoid
      whitewash.

It is high time the selection committee stop giving importance to Mumbai players. India is not just Mumbai.

Present performnce of Indian cricketers have shown that these people are not playing for country. Only money makes them play. Looking at their performance in England and Austrelia, doubt has been created in mind whether world championship of 2011 was managed. Do not try to blame Sachin Tendulkar alone. Lot of pressure is put on his shoulder by media and also by his well wishers. In every match they are expecting his 100th century. How he will play in such pressure. Time has come particularly to kick off President of Indian cricket council, all managers and particularly Sunil Gavaskar. because their internal politics is mainly responsible for this current condition of indian cricket team.

Sunil Gavaskar Indirectly suggesting the name of Sachin Tendulkar. It is well known that how Sunil Gavaskar remarked on Sachin Tendulkar in his bad period. But there after Sachin showed his true value. It seems that Sunil Gavaskar is jelous of Sachin's records. First of all do not put pressure on Sachin for his 100th century. Let him play his own Game.

Mr.Gavaskar should see the seniors performance even in the past and comment. Even Gavaskar would have spoiled so many ODIs and tests for India and played for a long time. That time also he should have had thought for the opportunity for youngsters!!!

Batting and Bowling all cllapsed. What is the reason. We were world's Number One, how we lost like a last number team of Bangladesh or Kenya. We have to investigate another fixing???? Tis team played so many matches for practice, they were well experienced. What is the reason of collapsing breathlessly???

As said remove all the seniors... India don't mind loosing 10-0 with all the youngsters overseas. Make rules each cricket player can play only 10 matches & show his performance in India-A matches against the visitors... dont even consider Ranji play.... India is bull shit team now , dunno what is bowling... and batting useless.....kick out all the seniors waste fellows INDIA dont want individual record. We need Country RECORD. Sachin is not a god. after his 99th century around the world they have made near to 90 centuries by individual... This is not fair, remove Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, Shewag & Dhoni too....

I saw the statement of Sunil Gavaskar but he has not openly told who are all to be dropped in the team because of his fearing. As a critic, my opinion is the following players are to be dropped:: Dravid, Laxman, Schewag, Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar. But immediate sacking of Dravid, Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar is most important. But why I mention Schewag and Dhoni? because still they dont understand the difference of Test and one day matches. Both of them playing the test matches like one day game, so we are losing the test series. Also to be dropped the coach Fletcher and he is not like Kersten of South Africa. Most of our captains do not know the fielding arrangement properly. The placement of fielding is not good always, as I watch in the so many test and one day matches. The coach must take care of this. The throwing of the ball from boundary line to the wicket keeper is 100% failure of our team. They are throwing the ball far away to the leg side or off side or above the head of the wicket keeper, so we are missing run outs easily. The ball throwing practice to be learned from Australia, New Zealand and South African players. They are throwing the ball from the out field 100% perfectly to the keeper. Most of our batsmen unnecessarily touching the ball out side off stick and giving the catch to keepers or slip fielders. When they are going to learn this, not touching the ball from out side off stick or leg stick. Most of the time
Gambhir cought behind to touch the ball leg stick in the Australian series. Therefore I request the selection board to give chance to 18-22 years youngsters and let us think after what to do for Indias winning.

Who could forget Sunny Gavaskar making invaluable 96 on a mine field of a pitch at Chinnaswamy stadium against willy Abdul Qadir n Iqbal Quasim in 1987,then choose to hang over his boots for good. The senior trio should have taken a stand like him, when they had their last spark ligting up in 2011.The wall should have retired at the end of Oval test or against West Indies. The little master is chasing a dream. What is the use playing 600 odd international matches, you score 100 centuries. It is quality n not quantity which matters Mr God of Cricket. You have passed in History Mr.Tendulkar.Kindly hang your boots.Good luck for running your business schools in England.Bud Arjun for the future.

Cricket in India has its "own" meaning.
Earlier players from cities came and brought name and fame.
They were not compensated to this level of money any time.
      Later -playing cricket- spread everywhere.
      Mony starting rolling.
      Politicians entered in to.
      Advertisors too spoiled with "money,
Cine (ladies) stars too had some entry.
So, in India Cricket is played with an aim to make money, by so many. Regional favour too entered.
Statewise team selected at each such stadium to please the crowed.

It is becasue, players were paid money, (ONLY CRICKET PLAYERS AND NOT FROM OTHER SAME & SPORTS SUCH HUGE MONEY) huge money on "sixes".ETC.,

Players appeared in advt with stars and made money.
Further they are entertained in parties, shows etc along with RICH sponsors.

Regional support, politicians support etc are on the role.

Now cricket is rolling from a state of strength to weakness.
In international level Indians have contributed so well, and Indian is full source for making money.

      A serious/relook is needed.

Finally, by cricketing , whether Indian got any cultural upliftment,
economic benefit, social status, community oneness, regional cooperation,
      etc ????

Yes all the seniors including Tandurkar should go. If one retires at his prime performance knowing well his age factor significant to his carrier that will help the new and eager youth to to get into team at right time to build up the team rather than hanging on to exist with past glory. If youngsters like Rohith Sarma are given as many chances as VVS or Dravid given they would have also scored runs.
