The Supreme Court’s decision to cancel all 122 telecom licenses issued by the former communications minister A Raja in 2008 is going to rock many political and corporate boats. Remember these include corporate behemoths like the Tatas, Reliance, Idea, Vodafone and Bharti. For the UPA government it amounts to red-faced embarrassment and a hole it possibly won’t be able to dig itself out of, and for Raja, almost certain indictment for his alleged involvement in the 3G telecom scam. Even though the PM Manmohan Singh and the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram claim they are not culpable, because they were in favor of the auctions, their actions will be seen as suspect.
Will this be the last nail in the coffin for the UPA and cost them in the next general election?
