Tendulkar may be rested for Perth ODI against Sri Lanka

Perth, Feb 7(ANI): Sachin Tendulkar's aim to score his hundredth international ton may have to wait as he may be rested for the upcoming one-day international match against Sri Lanka in Perth.

The move comes as a part of India's rotation policy to rest either of the top three batsmen at some point during the triangular series, The Age reports.

Tendulkar has been stranded on 99 international centuries for almost 11 months now, with the pressure building on him as each chance passes him by.

Virender Sehwag, who was rested from the opening one-dayer and will return for the Perth match, said the rotation policy would ensure players remained as fresh as possible following a hectic tour of Australia.

"When you're playing continuously with four Test matches then two T20s and then one-dayers, the body is fatigued and the mental break is also good for a player," Sehwag said.

"That's why we decided the top three would always rotate and we can give breaks to Tendulkar, Gambhir or Sehwag and then all the extras can play because they've just arrived here," he added.

He also said the team had sent their well wishes to team-mate Yuvraj Singh, who is undergoing chemotherapy treatment in the US after being diagnosed with a cancerous tumour.

"We're all praying for Yuvraj and hoping that he'll come back soon and can come out of whatever problems he's having and come back to playing as soon as possible," Sehwag said.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka vice-captain Angelo Mathews hopes he and his team-mates, who are still owed millions of dollars by the country's cash-strapped cricket board, will get paid soon. (ANI)

why BCCI decided like this for tendulkar, permanent rest should be for sehwag only. because sehwag no use he will play only few overs. but sachin can able to stand for long overs and will score more more runs. present situation only sachin can able to score against srilanka, australia. people's are waiting for sachin's 100th TON

some senior crickters who are earning crores on advertisemnts,. are feeding the some of the board members heavily. that is the reason, board shut its mouth even after 8 test loses.

Laxman is a great player agreed. But see what Deccan Chargers have done to him. Till the last moment he was an Iconic player, then dumped. Then removed as captain and then as a player. And now in the recent IPL auction he remained unsold. Did you lodge your protest with DC? So dont crib now.

this is not the context between sachin and laxman, it is performence matter. laxman not up to limited or shor version of cricket, which is a business. so the buyer wants entertiner. here, nations pride mattter. the batsman, who is not in form, must give way to some one. what do you say?

that is too crucial but its a good decision in the end , tendulkar should be India mega power but some times his presence give us energy in ground in field or in dressing room so nothing matter tendulkar playing or not

If someones says Sachin should be rested from cricket for ever, then it is better to say that "Cricket be rested for ever"!!! I dont want to see any cricket when Sachin is not playing..!!! Same will also be the case for millions of his fans..!!

no mr. swamy times have changed . the young ppl of india know that country is much bigger than cricket & cricket is much bigger than an individual. its foolish idol praising on your part. im sure that india has lots of upcoming youngsters who would be even better than tendulkar . i have full faith in young talent of india unlike u who thinks cricket is tendulkar . it seems ure world would crumble down on tendulkars exit. what a miniscule viewpoint

Dear Swami Anubhav is right... If you dont want to watch cricket its upto you coz nobody is forcing you to do so.. As anubhav told its trend we can see youngsters are performing for their nation not for money and publicity

I do not see any valid reason from anyone for asking sachin to retire.. he is still in form, still a far better player than anyone else in the team, having good fitness level, and also good in fielding... He brings in a lot of value to the team.. Just for the reason that he has played for long years and he is now at 38, it is unfair to ask him to retire.. he should play as long as he is in form and with fitness and more importantly as long as he wishes to... he is an icon of india.. people who ask for him to retire has hardly done anything great...

this stupid statement rotation policy would ensure players remained as fresh as possible following a hectic tour..only for indian playersare they following during oneday not in IPL....?

I think the people who are saying that Sachin should be rested or removed are JEALOUS of his success. I wonder how he is alone responsible! What about other players in the team? And my friends it is not charity that the seniors should vacate their place for juniors. One has to earn (and not beg) his place. If anyone thinks Sachin is selfish then find out how many ODIs he has played after WC - only one, else he would have scored many more centuries. Once these seniors retire, the stadia would be empty and TVs would lose their TRPs. So dear friends let us respect our sports heroes.

SACHIN WILL PLAY...can't rest someone for not scoring a 100... when others cant even score a 25.
    • Monendra Kapur  •  Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh  •  3 months ago
It was well calculated move to prevent Sachin from scoring his 100th one. There is no reason to justify his "rest" - because Sachin did not play 20-20 and had come back to ODI
after significant number of ODIs. He is the highest scorer and the break may affect his form and Indians will have to wait further for his Mahashatak. Team Management's stand needs to be condemned - as has been said by Gavaskar & Ravi.
