Here's a chance for the young ones to play Munna bhai and spread love and cheer Bapu style, albeit not on screen but through T-shirts.
State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) will host a T-shirt painting competition on its premises on Tuesday to mark Gandhi Jayanti in which nearly 50 school students from across the state will come up with drawings on Gandhigiri.
The one-and-a-half-hour painting contest is being organised for the first time by SIRD, which will also celebrate its 58th foundation day on Tuesday. SIRD had published advertisements, inviting entries from interested students.
Participants will be divided into two categories ' junior (Classes I-VII) and senior (Classes VIII-XII). Prizes will be awarded to the best paintings for innovative imagination and thought. While the winner will get a cash prize of Rs 1,000, the first runner-up will pocket Rs 700 and the second runner-up Rs 500.
"Gandhi's ideology has inspired people of all ages and time. This painting competition that will see the students upholding Bapu's teachings with the help of brush is being held to pass on his thoughts to the younger generation. Gandhian philosophy has received global recognition and youngsters should imbibe his values in their daily lives," said SIRD director R.P. Singh.
He added that they would provide white T-shirts while the participants would have to bring their own painting materials like colours and brushes. The total expenditure to be incurred is expected to be around Rs 70,000.
SIRD will keep the T-shirts, which will be later auctioned at different functions.
"We have decided to keep the T-shirts in our possession with the hope of auctioning them at various functions," Singh said.
The proceeds from the auction will be spent on welfare of schools situated in remote rural areas. "We have also decided to use the money for other charitable work," the SIRD director added.
Apart from the painting contest, SIRD will also organise functions on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. A statute of the Mahatma will be unveiled as part of the celebrations.
