Guwahati, Aug. 12: Sunrise Athletic Club registered a 3-1 victory against Gauhati Town Club in today's match of the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Trophy Guwahati Sports Association super league football tournament at Nehru Stadium here.

In an evenly poised clash, Sunrise did not take much time to read the attacking GTC side and made the most of it to initiate moves into the opponent territory.

Such a move resulted through foreigner Camara in the 38th minute to lead 1-0 at lemon break.

Into the second session, both sides started out on an aggressive note.

GTC managed to restore parity through Rahul Boro in the 53rd minute.

Though GTC tried to be defensive after the score came to a draw, the experienced Sunrise men went on the offensive midway into the second half. They were rewarded for their efforts very soon when Camara ruffled the net for his second in the 75th minute.

Midfielder Sayao Thankul took the opportunity of the GTC men going all out in the last few minutes to make it 3-1 with another goal for Sunrise in the 84th minute.

Yesterday, defending champions Assam State Electricity Board SC were held to a goalless draw by Navajyoti Club.

Though the powermen dominated the first session, they could not strike out for goals because of brilliant saves by the opponent custodian.

Navajyoti got some good scoring opportunities in the second half but missed the net because of a lack of accuracy on the part of the strikers.

Tomorrow, Assam Police Blues will lock horns with Food Corporation of India SC.

N-E Soccer: Jagiroad Youth Club today defeated Noonmati Coaching Centre 2-0 in a match of the 4th Joiram Medhi and Dhiren Boro North East Football Championship organised by the Brihattar Beltola Krira Bikash Samittee at Sarusajai Sports Complex here.

Rajesh Timung scored both the goals for the Jagiroad outfit in the 27th and 61st minutes.

Yesterday, Power House FC, Kahilipara edged past Dimoria Royal Club 4-3 via tiebreakers.

The regulation time of the match ended in a goalless draw.

Tomorrow, Nabajyoti Club, Panjabari will meet Sarusahai Coaching Centre in the last knockout match of the first round.
