New Delhi, Nov 1 (ANI): Praising Food Corporation of India (FCI), Minister of Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Prof. K. V. Thomas on Thursday said that the government has decided to further strengthen FCI in order to ensure food security to the people of the country.
Reviewing the sports and cultural activities of the FCI here, Thomas said: "Present government recognises the voluminous operations it performs to ensure food to billions across the country. The present government has therefore decided to further strengthen FCI in order to ensure food security to the people of the country."
Thomas further said he was happy to know that FCI has not only been ensuring food security of the nation but also contributing towards excellence in sports and bringing laurels to the country by supporting and grooming medal winning sportspersons of all streams like weightlifting, hockey, athletics, football, table tennis and badminton.
The participants at the sports and cultural activities meeting included the first Indian individual woman medallist at Olympics Karnam Malleshwari, well known athlete Shiny Wilson, veteran Hockey player Thoiba Singh, Former Indian Football team Captain Alok Mukherjee, and many others.
A numbers of new initiatives were discussed in the meeting, which included induction of sportspersons of international and national repute at officer level.
A new sports policy, which included grant of cash incentive, increments and out of turn promotion for outstanding achievement in the sports and cultural arena, was also deliberated upon in the meeting.
The sports policy also included proposal for increase in stipend amount being given by FCI to the budding and talented sportsperson. (ANI)
