Snoop Dogg congratulates Welsh sailors for making it to 2012 Olympics

London, Feb 17 (ANI): Sailing duo Hannah Mills and Saskia Clarke have found a fan in rap star Snoop Dogg ahead of London 2012.

Just days after being unveiled in the first group of athletes for this summer's Games, the 40-year-old rapper congratulated Mills on his Twitter site which has five million followers.

"Congrats to Hannah Mills for makn tha Olympics," the Sun quoted him as tweeting.

The girls, who are among the favourites for gold in the 470class after winning World Championship silver in Australia in December, admitted that they thought it was a wind-up at first.

But the rapper then appeared on YouTube dressed in a Cardiff City shirt ahead of his tour date in the Welsh capital and said: "A big shout out to Hannah Mills, a 23-year-old sailor who has just made it to the Olympics. What an achievement."

Mills, who was born in Cardiff but is now based in Weymouth and will make her Olympic debut in London, admitted: "We thought it was a wind-up.

"I was up in London and got a text off a friend saying Snoop Dogg has just tweeted about you. I thought that's ridiculous.

"I got Saskia to go on twitter and we found it. When we showed the other sailors they said don't be ridiculous too - it's a total wind-up.

"Then we saw the video he did and that convinced people it was genuine. You can't really fake Snoop Dogg wearing a Cardiff City shirt giving me a shout out.

"I knew all his songs as a teenager but never expected him to know anything about sailing. It's very bizarre. We've tweeted him back now to invite him sailing!" she added.

The two only teamed up a year ago after Clarke's former partner Sarah Ayton - who won two Olympic golds in the yngling class, decided to retire. (ANI)
