Calcutta: West Indies captain Darren Sammy was ecstatic after his team crushed Australia to enter the final of the World Cup T20.
"We did what we had to do to get into the semis… And it's good that in the most crucial game, everybody turned up. We did what we had to do."
He praised his openers, and said that as promised the Windies played their A game. "Chris and Marlon set it up really well for us and the bowlers just turned up today…We did play our A game…It's a good feeling to be in the final."
Before the start of the tournament, the West Indies were seen as the 'dark horse' and though during the tournament they haven't been at their best, Sammy believes that on their day his team have the potential to beat anyone.
"If you look at the quality in the dressing room, we knew that if we execute our skills properly we can beat any team in the world. Today, for once we showed that. We know that if we play as a team we can be a dangerous side."
Sammy was all praise for about his flamboyant opener ' Chris Gayle became the Man of the Match after blasting a massive 75 off 41 deliveries. Asked what he tells him when the latter pads up, Sammy laughed and said that it's nothing more than just luck.
"Before Chris goes out to bat I just tell him, 'good luck'," said Sammy.
On a serious note he continued, "No seriously, look he is a very experienced player. It's amazing to see him bat. He plays a crucial role in this World Cup for us."
Talking about the grand finale on Sunday against the hosts, Sammy seemed wary of the unbeaten side.
"There is one more hurdle to jump and hopefully we can do it on Sunday," said the hopeful captain. "Sri Lanka is a tough team to beat. They haven't lost a game in this tournament. But hopefully we will play a cracker of a game on Sunday and come out victorious."
