Salman Khurshid agrees to abide by Election Commission's guidelines

Sultanpur //Lucknow Feb 14 (ANI): Commenting on the poll panel's strictures against him for violating the poll code by promoting minority reservation, Union Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid has said that he would abide by the Election Commission's guidelines.

"It is absolutely ok; if they have said it then there is no problem in this. It is our legal set up and we have to obey that. What we cannot say today that we will not say. We will say when needed. Let Election Commission do its work," Khurshid told media here.

Election Commission has its responsibility and let them work according to their responsibilities and we will work according to our responsibilities and there is no point of debating this topic and there is no problem," he added.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti said that it was for the Election Commission to decide on the episode.

"Election Commission has to decide this whether it will absolve Salman Khurshid or not but Salman Khurshid has violated the model code of conduct and I think that the Election Commission should investigate the matter but who are we to advise the Election Commission," Bharti said in Lucknow.

During a recent poll campaign in Uttar Pradesh, Khurshid had promised that if the Congress party was voted to power in the state, the sub-quota for Muslims would be increased to nine per cent within the 27 per cent reservation meant for Other Backward Classes (OBC).

The Election Commission of India (ECI) slapped Khurshid with a notice, saying his remarks had violated the model code of conduct.

The Election Commission sought the "immediate and decisive" intervention of President Pratibha Devisingh Patil after it charged Khurshid with "improper and unlawful" defiance of its orders under which he was censured for promising sub-quota for minorities.

President Patil has sent Election Commission's complaint against Salman Khurshid to Prime Minister's Office for appropriate action.

Extending quotas in government jobs and educational institutes to backward minorities was being projected as a key initiative of the Congress-led UPA coalition ahead of the 2012 assembly polls in Pradesh, which has a substantial Muslim population. (ANI)

What a democracy we have ? Law minister can advocate for Muslims publicly but one can not say anything for Hindus .If you tell some thing in support of Hindus ,it will be communal feeling. Every citizen should protest for this and force the congress not to create communal line and divide the country once more .Remember Muslims are the worst sufferer in this divide and rule policy of congress. Once the Muslims were made MINORITY in India and MUHAZIRS in Pakistan. My Muslim brothers should understand this and vote.

I was under the impression that Salman Khurshid was different from other stupid congresswala. But he proved me wrong. EC should postpone all further elections in UP till suich time Kurshid is removed from the post of Law Minister. Nothing short of his removal should be accepted by either EC nor the common people.

Dont you feel shame at all? Being a Minister and representing the whole society and still dont have sense to speak?Your twisting of tongue skills are cheap tricks of long back.First resign and then fight for quota within the party. Are you ready?

No point in shedding crocodile tears now and changing stance on the part of Salman Khursid. This was a well calculated game plan by him to gain political mileage which he thinks he has already achieved. He is not doing any favour to anybody by declaring that he will abide by the guidelines of EC.What a joke?He is a law minister and does not he know what is law? People know who is who, better let him not pretend. Now it is EC who has to play the next card and the country is eagrely waiting to watch.

No wonders !!! As usual, It's a well-scripted drama by the pseudo-secular jokers, the most crooked goons of the most wicked, thick-skinned, brazenly shameless Congress party mafia - under the auspices of their most cunning (typical Italian DNA) Italian godmother. All & every stage steps of the crookedly scripted actions by all the wicked jokers, including their Ghandi (not Gandhi, please) princely crooks, are all foregone chapters of the heinous drama. Any doubts, my good fellow citizens ???

After challenging EC openly, our Law Minister says that he would abide by EC rules. Only EC can tell how and why our Law Minister had the guts to violate election codes. Salman had earlier been let-off with a censure and perhaps this has emboldened our law breakers.

He and congress achieved what they were looking for. He has done this with connivance of CEC else they could have taken strong action such as cancelling the congress symbol the KHUNI PANJA

There come one UNLAWFUL minister from Congress !!
What was the need of promising moon to minorities during the time of election. Why didn't they had the same sort of concern before, this is just a ploy to use minority voters during elections.

This is too little and too late. Salman Khurshid is not only a leader but also a law minister. His violation of the law cannot be termed as a mere oversight. He should be sacked from his post and should be banned from campaigning in polls for the next 5 years which would set a precedence for all other erring leaders. If at all Congress manages to garner some muslim votes in this election, it will be only because of this gimmick played by Salman and hence it should not be taken lightly. Jai hind!!!
