London, May 15 (ANI): Andrew Strauss has defended his decision to retire from one-day cricket, saying it will spark a rebirth of his Test match career.
rauss, 34, relinquished the one-day captaincy last week after England's disastrous World Cup campaign in which they contrived to lose to both Ireland and Bangladesh before limping into the quarter-finals.
If anyone gets the impression that I've stopped playing one-day cricket and am gradually winding down to the end of my career that's just not the way I see it," Express.co.uk quoted Strauss, as saying.
"The idea of not playing one-day cricket is to give me a spurt in Test cricket and allow me to play longer and lead the side as well as I can," he added.
"One advantage I do see out of not playing ODI cricket is I can really focus on my Test game, whereas when playing both forms you drift from one to the other. I'd like to get back to my best in Test cricket, not just as a batsman but as a captain as well," Strauss said. (ANI)
