BORDOLOI TROPHY
Guwahati, Sept. 27: Rangdajied United Football Club, Shillong, sealed a berth in the semi-finals of the 61st Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Bordoloi Trophy Tournament, defeating Langsning Football Club, Shillong 7-6 in sudden death in the third quarter-final at Nehru Stadium here today.
Langsning had a slight upper hand in the first half, but Rangdajied came back strongly in the second half.
Timmy Ryngkhlem opened the account for Langsning, after he connected a pass from M. Ashok Singh from the left flank to catch Rangdajied goalkeeper Surjay Pariyar stranded in the 29th minute. For Rangdajied, Baba Tunde had a chance in the 44th minute, only to head the ball straight to the goalkeeper.
Rangdajied player Argha Chakraborty equalised in the 49th minute. Striker Jeribe Kelechi tried to score twice for Rangdajied in the 56th and 57th minutes, but to no avail.
In the tiebreaker, both teams were locked 4-4.
For Rangdajied, Baba Tunde, E. Abocha Singh, Bhola Prasad and Enyinnaya Loveday scored. For Langsning, Michael Olatayo Ayeni, M. Ashok Singh, Fulmoon Mukhim and Yinka Joel Sunday Ayeni were spot on.
In sudden death, Thomas Saikhom and Pynshongdor Shadap scored for Rangdajied while for Langsning, only Samson Nongrum could net the ball with Moyasing Khongreiwo failing to beat goalkeeper Surjay who brought up a brilliant save.
T Ao soccer: The 4th NEC T Ao Football Tournament will be held in Shillong tentatively from November 15 to 23.
