Jaipur, July 22 (IANS) A Rajasthan government school teacher was arrested Sunday for severely beating up a group of five children from nearby colonies for playing in the premises and disturbing the students, police said.
Harish Chandra, 45, used a belt Saturday noon to punish the children, aged eight to 10 years, for playing in the ground of government upper primary school in Sirohi town, some 350 km from Jaipur.
"Harish Chandra was taking a class when he heard some children making noise in the playground. The children were residents of nearby colonies. Irked over this, he brought them into an empty classroom and repeatedly hit them with a belt," a police official said.
The children sustained serious injuries on their back, stomach and other parts of the body.
"After keeping them locked for almost half an hour, he allowed the children to leave. The children's family members later lodged a first information report against the teacher," he said.
A medical check confirmed that the children were beaten up, following which he was arrested, said the official.
