Ambedkar Nagar, Feb 2 (ANI): Congress general secretary, Rahul Gandhi here today targeted the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for allegedly making false promises to woo the voters ahead of the assembly polls.
While addressing a public rally in Ambedkar Nagar district on Thursday, Gandhi said Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav had failed to address the problem of electricity in the state since 22 years.
"Your elected leaders come and make promises. Mulayam Singh came and made promises; he said that their government would provide electricity. In the last 22 years, not even a single electric board has been constructed. He made the promise of providing electricity but from where will he provide electricity. If the electric board does not exist, then from where will the electricity come? They all make false promises," said Gandhi.
Gandhi further accused Yadav for making false promise of providing 28 percent reservation for minorities.
"They say they will give 28 percent reservation. The Supreme Court says it is not possible and Mulayam Singh Yadav is promising you people that he will give that much reservation, so how is it possible? It is all fake," said Gandhi.
Gandhi accused BSP and SP of looting the food grains that was provided for the poor people of the state by the Central Government, under the Public Distribution System.
"Mulayam Singh became the chief minister for three terms. We had sent food grains for the poor, PDS (Public Distribution System) food grains; their government stole it, they did scams. They stole your food," he said.
The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.
Polls in Uttar Pradesh will be conducted between February 8 and March 3, and the vote counting will take place on March 6.
Uttar Pradesh will elect a new 403-member state assembly in March, and the poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 General Elections.
In the fray are the BJP, Congress, BSP and SP. (ANI)
