Qureshi asks Gilani to either apologise to SC or resign over contempt of court

Islamabad, Feb 11 (ANI): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi has asked Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to either apologise to the Supreme Court or resign.

The Dawn quoted Qureshi, as saying that Gilani should apologise to the SC and write a letter to the Swiss authorities to resolve the issue once and for all.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has decided in its core committee meeting on Wednesday that Gilani will not write a letter to the Swiss authorities to reopen money laundering cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

A senior PPP leader said the entire leadership of the party was of the opinion that no letter would be written to the Swiss government. Instead, they said, the government should fight its case in the Supreme Court.

Earlier, a top official at the Prime Minister's Secretariat said: "I don't know if some change of heart will take place tonight, but so far, the government is totally committed not to write this letter."

PPP Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira refused to comment, saying it was a legal and sub judice.

The Pakistan Supreme Court (SC) has already rejected Gilani's Intra Court Appeal against the verdict of a smaller bench for the framing of contempt of court charges against him. Gilani will now have to appear before the Supreme Court on February 13 for contempt proceedings, The News reports. (ANI)
