New Delhi, May 17 (PTI) Silver and gold prices moved up on the bullion market here today on aggressive buying by stockists, triggered by firming global trend. The gold surged by Rs 180 to Rs 12,490 per 10 gram and silver gained Rs 150 to Rs 23,750 per kg as both the metals in global markets recorded handsome gains with dollar weakening against euro and crude oil recording its high levels.
In the US markets, gold gained nearly 40 dollar to trade at 898 dollar an ounce as weakening dollar and firming crude raised concerns of a rise in inflation, boosting demand for the precious metal as a safe haven. The metals remained bullish in future trading also, which influenced trading in physical markets.
Standard gold and ornaments shot up by Rs 180 each to Rs 12,490 and Rs 12,340 per 10 gram respectively. Sovereign was up by Rs 25 to Rs 9925 per piece of eight gram.
Silver ready spurted by Rs 150 to Rs 23,750 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 205 to Rs 23,550 per kg. However, silver coins were continued to be asked at previous level of Rs 26,700 for buying and Rs 26,800 for selling of 100 pieces.
