One killed, 13 injured as power house generator explodes

Pathanamthitta (Ker), May 16 (PTI) One person was killed and 13 injured as a 60 MW generator of the Sabarigri Hydro Electric Project at Moozhiyar near here exploded this evening, police said. The condition of eight of those injured were stated to be serious.

They had been rushed to the district hospital here. The deceased was identified as Anilkumar, a contract worker, police said.

The generator caught fire as it exploded. Fire force and police rushed to the spot to put out the fire.

Senior officials of the Kerala State Electricity Board had gone to the power house to review the situation and ascertain the cause of the blast. The power house has been shutdown following the explosion, the sources said.
