Lucknow, May 14 (PTI) Security was beefed up across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand following serial blasts which rocked Jaipur yesterday. In Kanpur, security has been tightened with additional force being deployed at sensitive places, including the railway station.
People at temples, shopping malls and multiplexes are being monitored. Strict instructions have been issued for maintaining records of visitors at guest houses and hotels, Kanpur District Magistrate Anil Sagar said.
Inspector General of Police, Gorakhpur, G P Sharma said an alert has been sounded across all 11 districts of the zone and restaurants, hotels and guest houses are being checked. A strict vigil is also being maintained at the airport, railway and bus station.
Sharma said the terrorists responsible for the blast may take shelter in Nepal using the porous India-Nepal border. The Seema Sashastra Bal (SSB), which secures the 305 km Indo-Nepal border falling under Maharajganj, Siddhartha Nagar, Shrawasti and Balrampur districts of UP, has been alerted and manpower increased at its checkposts, said SSB PRO O P Sahu.
An alert has been sounded in Uttarakhand with police increasing security around Badrinath and other shrines. DGP Subhash Joshi took stock of the security arrangements at Dehradun and instructed the police to increase night patrolling in the vulnerable areas, police sources said.
Inspector General Garhwal Ashok Kumar said security in the Chardham tourist circuit has been beefed up. Police is also maintaining vigil at Har-Ki-Pauri and other crowded areas of Haridwar and Rishikesh.
Frisking is also being carried out at religious places in Uttarakhand where the Chardham yatra, comprising pilgrimage to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, is in progress. PTI.
