Davanagere (KTK), May 12 (PTI) Faced with criticism over its promise to lift the ban on arrack in Karnataka if voted to power in the ongoing assembly elections, Congress today backtracked saying that it had no plans to revive the sale of the brew. Chairman of the Congress Campaign Committee, Siddaramiah told reporters that former KPCC President, B Janardhan Poojary's statement on lifting of the ban on arrack was in his 'personal' capacity and not the party's.
He said following the ban on sale of arrack poor people had begun consuming the costly Indian made foreign liquor and its sale had gone up by three per cent. Total prohibition was impractical and there should be a national debate on the issue, Siddaramiah said.
Replying to a question, he said he was confident that Congress would form a goverment on its own. PTI.
