Cong not to go for coalition in Karnataka: Sonia

Wed, May 7 06:37 PM

Tumkur, May 7 (PTI) Exuding confidence that her party would get a clear mandate from people in the Karnataka Assembly polls, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today said the party would not go in for a coalition arrangement in the state. "The Congress would not go in for coalition and would not compromise on its principles for power at any cost," she said, addressing a public meeting at this district headquarters town.

She claimed that only Congress can provide a stable government that would complete its tenure of five years, adding, non-Congress governments have never been successful in Karnataka, where under such governments, the state had suffered loss. Taking a jibe at the previous JDS-BJP government, she said the two parties made many false promises but only "resulted in rampant corruption".

"We want to provide responsible, transparent and responsive government which will work in tandem with aspirations of the people," Sonia said. PTI.
