Kendrapara (Orissa), May 1 (PTI) In a bid to escape from the dowry demands of his would be son-in-law, a man faked that he had been robbed of more than Rs three lakh here. Retired CRPF personnel Nilamani Das felt the lie would help him get some sympathy from the greedy groom's party but it instead landed him in fresh trouble with the police mulling action against him for misleading them.
Das, 60, got himself admitted to the district headquarters hospital here yesterday and lodged an FIR stating that unidentified men robbed him of Rs 3.30 lakh near the Pattamundai State Bank of India branch, police said. He claimed to have withdrawn the sum from his savings accounts in the bank to meet the expenses for his daughter's marriage tomorrow, the FIR said.
The complainant, native of Madanpur village about 45 km from here, had alleged that a group of youths in a car waylaid him near the bank premises and picked him up in the car. They made him inhale some toxic chemicals after which the man lost consciousness.
As he regained consciousness, he found himself lying in a deserted place near the residence of Kendrapara Superintendent of Police. He also found his purse containing Rs 3.30 lakh that was drawn from the bank for marriage of his daughter missing, the FIR said.
Kendrapara Superintendent of Police Diptesh Patnaik said police was considering to initiate action against Das for allegedly trying to mislead police. PTI.
