Malappuram (Kerala), May 1 (PTI) A five-year-old boy was killed when a rifle went off 'accidentally' while playing in Malappuram district, police said today. Hisham was hit by a bullet in the chest when he and his seven-year-old cousin Adinan were playing inside the latter's house at at Perinthalmanna, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Malappuram, M R Maniyan told PTI. Hisham was rushed to a private hospital soon after the incident where he succumbed to the injury last night, the sources said.
A .22 rifle, owned by Adinan's father Abdul Rashid Ali was kept in the room where the children were playing, Maniyan said, adding that the exact cause of the death would be known only after post-mortem.
A case would be registered against the owner of the rifle if it was confirmed that it was kept loaded, he said, adding the police have seized the rifle along with its licence. PTI.
