New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS) Fasih Mahmood, a suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist involved in blasts in Bangalore and Delhi in 2010, was remanded to 10 days police custody by a Delhi court, a lawyer said Tuesday.
Mahmood's counsel Syed Irfan Alam told IANS that a duty magistrate Monday evening gave his custody to police for questioning.
The accused's brother Sabih Mahmood and Alam Tuesday met him in the office of Delhi Police's specialised anti-terror unit special cell.
Alam told IANS that Mahmood's mental and physical condition was fine. Sabih said that they interacted with him for around half-an-hour.
Police, however, remained tight-lipped on Mahmood's custody and appearance before the magistrate the day before.
The 35-year-old engineer from Bihar, employed in Saudi Arabia, was arrested around 8 a.m. Monday at Delhi airport when he arrived after his deportation from Saudi Arabia.
He was allegedly involved in the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium blast in Bangalore and an explosion in Delhi.
The accused was picked up by Saudi authorities from Al Jubal May 13 and lodged in a Saudi jail June 26 for suspected terror links, police said.
Mahmood hails from Barh Saaila village in Darbhanga district of Bihar, about 200 km from Patna. His father, Firoz Ahmad, is in-charge of the Benipatti primary health centre in Madhubani district. His mother is a school teacher in Darbhanga, police said.
The terror suspect's wife Nikhat Parveen told reporters in Bihar soon after his arrest in Delhi that he was innocent. "I will approach the court for justice," she said, claiming that Mahmood's arrest was unlawful.
Mahmood is the second terror suspect that Saudi Arabia, home to over two million expatriate Indians, has deported to India. Alleged 26/11 handler Abu Jundal was sent back to India in June.
