The Supreme Court today slammed the central government for not being stringent in its regulation of clinical trials, and for not adequately compensating the families of those who died as a result of the trials. Under the banner of the Clinical Trial Victims' Association (CTVA), the families of those who underwent such trials had approached the apex court. Speaking on behalf of the petitioners, a doctor, Anand Roy said that the court had invoked a Parliamentary report from May last year, which had spoken of loopholes in the regulation process. A CTVA member, who declined to be named, said that the court had dismissed the affidavits filed by the government.
