The Samajwadi Party (SP), which rules Uttar Pradesh, today proposed the name of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav as the prime ministerial candidate, a year before general polls. The SP said people were looking up to Yadav, who has served as the Defense minister and UP chief. Meanwhile, the Janata Dal-United (JD-U), an ally of the BJP, sought a meeting of their coalition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to discuss for the PM candidate. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the BJP's sister outfit, has decided to hold a rally in Allahabad on February 07 to declare BJP leader Narendra Modi as NDA's prime ministerial candidate.
