more INDIA, Hyderabad : Indian protesters from the Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) shout slogans as they burn the effigy of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government against the petrol price hike, in Hyderabad on May 23, 2012. Indian state-run oil firms announced a sharp hike in petrol prices Wednesday to offset growing losses caused by subsidised rates, rises in the international oil price and a plunging rupee. The increase, the steepest in nearly a decade, was put at 6.28 Indian rupees (11 US cents) per litre which, when taxes are included, will mean a 7.5 Indian rupee hike for consumers in cities like New Delhi.
