London, Sep 24(ANI): A football match between two English church teams was abandoned after players from both sides got involved in a repulsive broil.
Trouble between the two teams started midway through the match in a Christian league set up to promote peace and understanding.
During the match players started scrapping with each other and the one player who had been sent off earlier ran back on the pitch to join in.
Five of the involved players are now facing yearlong bans for violent conduct and another is to be disciplined for improper behaviour.
The West Midlands Christian League game at West Bromwich-based Zion Athletic first boiled over in the 47th minute when Birmingham visitors Common Ground United had a player sent off for foul play.
"It's very much unprecedented. I think the league will ban the players guilty of fighting for a year," the Sun quoted League secretary Neil Kovacs, as saying.
The referee had to abandon the game and both clubs are to be hauled before officials on Tuesday. (ANI)
