    Patil sends Quraishi's letter to PMO

    New Delhi, Feb 11 (IANS) President Pratibha Patil has forwarded Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi's letter over Law Minister Salman Khurshid's defiant stand on quota for backward Muslims in Uttar Pradesh to the prime minister's office for "appropriate action".

    Official sources said that the president "had seen" the letter written by CEC Saturday evening, in which he sought her "immediate and decisive intervention".

    They said that the letter had been sent to the PMO for appropriate action.

    The poll panel had censured Khurshid Thursday over his promise for nine percent quota for minorities including backward Muslims from the 27 percent Other Backward Class quota if Congress is voted to power in Uttar Pradesh.

    Khurshid triggered a fresh controversy Friday evening with his remarks that he will ensure rights to "pasmanda (backward Muslims)" even if he is "hanged" by the poll panel.

      There is nothing wrong in making this remark as it is just a poll promisse which may & may not be fullfilled. Are political parties not making promisses in their manifestos as well as their speeches on daily basis - like giving jobs to the educated raped (SP - Chief) or chopping the hands of the rapeist (BJP - Chief) or constructing the Ram Mandir (BJP)?

        If every Tom ,Dick and Herry start deciding what is right and what is wrong then what is need of CVC, CAG, EC Courts etc. Let everyone decide what is right. Mr Farooq considering your age I would not make any derogatory comment but your comments are not fair and lopsided effect of which would be quite dangerous if taking a cue from this, other parties also start doing that. Besides, it is very funny that the highest constitutional authority i.e. President also can not do more than just forwarding the letter to PMO then what is the use of this cosmetic office?
