Pak army tries five officers over 'links' with banned outfit Hizbut Tahrir

Islamabad, Feb 11 (ANI): The Pakistan army has started court martial proceedings against five officers, including Brigadier Ali Khan, over their suspected ties to the banned outfit Hizbut Tahrir, security officials have said.

The Daily Times quoted two senior security officials, as saying that the military trial started recently, though they avoided giving other details.

Brigadier Khan was reportedly indicted this week after the completion of a summary of evidence against him. However, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) neither confirmed nor denied the news.

Former Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer Colonel (rtd.) Muhammad Akram told a foreign media organisation that family members of Brig Khan had contacted him to plead his case in a military court.

The court indicted Brig Khan under charges that he made pledges with the high command of the Hizbut Tahrir to help it in its designs.

Brig Khan's lawyer, Col (r) Inam Rahim, said after the arrest that his client had been detained for demanding that someone within the military be held accountable for the covert US Navy SEALs raid that killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad last year.

According to the military law, the process of court martial is started within few days after the framing of charges. (ANI)
