Tyler Mcgill Biography

McGill will make his Olympic debut after qualifying for the 100-meter butterfly with a second-place finish in the U.S. trials behind Michael Phelps. It's the same event in which McGill earned his first world championships medal last year when he took home the bronze. McGill earned redemption after failing to qualify at the 2008 trials with a fourth-place finish in the butterfly. He has shown steady improvement in his signature event, finishing seventh at the 2009 worlds before his breakthrough last year. McGill has shined the previous three years at nationals, with second-place finishes in the fly each time. A three-time state champion in high school in Illinois, McGill enjoyed a stellar collegiate career at Auburn - his current training base.
