'Not surprised with Jaya Prada's move to join BJP': Azam Khan

Rampur/New Delhi, May 26 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Azam Khan on Saturday said that he was not surprised with Rampur MP Jaya Prada's move to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"We have no right to comment on person, who has been expelled from the party. As far as joining the Bharatiya Janata Party is concerned, we had made it very clear soon after ten days of the polls that the decision of the party in this regard was not right. We spread our hands for a wrong person. There is no surprise in it," said Khan.

"She won the second election after purchasing the Bharatiya Janata Party. She is working for the RSS and the BJP, but the whole country knows how much role the RSS and the BJP has in politics now," he added.

Taking potshots at Jaya Parade over reports of her joining the BJP, Khan said the people do not want the Rampur of Bollywood or Hollywood, but a region that is on the developmental path.

"The people of Rampur want development, the people of Rampur want good fortunes, road, water, electricity, clean villages, effective law and order situation. eople of Rampur do not want the Rampur of Bollywood or Hollywood. A Rampur of good character is developing and we are in the process," he said.

Azam Khan, who is the prominent Muslim face of the Samajwadi Party, also hit out at the ruling Congress Party, and charged it of working for the BJP so that a Third Front does not form the government at the Centre.

Jaya Prada had, however, earlier today made it clear that she will take decision of joining the BJP or another political party only after consulting Amar Singh.

Jaya Prada, a second term Lok Sabha MP from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, reportedly met BJP President Nitin Gadkari a few days back.

"BJP may think about making me their candidate from Rampur, so far nothing officially conveyed to me. Will only take final decision after talking to Amar Singh, I am getting offers from all parties," said Jaya Prada.

"I respect Nitinji, Advaniji, Sushmaji, and I am happy that media is responding to these reports positively (of her joining BJP)," she added.

The actress-turned politician also tried to mend fences with TDP President Chandrababu Naidu by saying she had never spoken ill of him during her visit to Tirupati in April.

Jaya Prada, who left the Telegu Desam Party (TDP), the party that served as a launch pad to her political career, in the early 2000 to join Amar Singh at the Samajwadi Party, is looking for an opportunity to revive her political fortune in Andhra Pradesh as well. (ANI)
