Norwegian Govt. urged to expedite process of return of children to India: MEA

New Delhi, Feb 22 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday informed that Government of India has urged the Norwegian Government once again to expedite the process of return of the young children in view of the humanitarian dimension of the issue.

MEA official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said it was underlined that India has strong legislative and institutional mechanism to protect the interests of children after their return to India.

"The Norwegian Government was urged once again to expedite the process of return of the young children to India in view of the humanitarian dimension of the issue. It was underlined that India has strong legislative and institutional mechanism to protect the interests of children after their return to India," he said in response to a question.

The MEA spokesperson further said the Government of India was made aware of the fact that the Norwegian authorities were seeking to extend the Residence Permits of the two young Indian children who have been put in foster care by the Municipal Child Care Services in Stavanger.

"The Government immediately conveyed its serious concerns regarding the manner in which this was done to the Norwegian Foreign Office, in Oslo as well as in New Delhi. It was pointed out that the children are neither orphans nor Stateless persons, and enjoy the protection of the Indian State and any request for extension of Residence Permit on their behalf should emanate from either the parents or the Indian State," said Akbaruddin.

Three-year-old Abhigyan and one-year-old Aishwarya have been placed under the care of two different foster families in Norway. The Norway authorities had said that the children were taken away as their parents, Sagarika and Anurup, were not taking proper care of them.

The parents, however, said the authorities took exception to cultural differences such as sleeping with the children and breastfeeding the daughter at scheduled times as opposed to when she cried. (ANI)

12,500 kids is a huge number ,to be taken into foster care in 6 years. There is something suspicious going on .Our government should be more stern in their actions. The United Nations should step in and investigate.

12500 kids in foster is perfectly understandable in a country of hedonistic uncivilized barbarians. they produce children accidently and do nothing to raise them. However a single Indian child from a loving and cultured family family kidnapped and placed into this barbaric system is UNACCEPTABLE.

HI.. Guys this is very wrong and the Norway should and must return the child but.. read the last para.. they didn't kidnap the child they took these children to their protection(for these westerns never know the meaning of culture or care) so they did thinking our Indian parents are like western parents( getting to bars and semi nude baths in Beaches while leaving children to care for them-self) they must under our nations culture and care and release the child soon..(but talking of war or any other military actions will just make us like USA or CHINA( cold-blooded military killers)

I agree wit prem ...i understand what the parents and the kids might be going thru ...this moment ...i request the norway govt to please release the kids to their as no kids are taken more care as the parents do ..and we indians has more cultural values when compared to the western countries ..I request ot indian govt to take strong action against the norway govt .as we cannot betray the kids to a third party when the parents are alive .they are orphans to takecare of others .i pity the state of mind their mother might be growing thru.....i beg you people to release and gv their kids back .

Kidnapping a child of breastfeeding age is uncivilized and barbaric. Norwegians are hedonistic child molesting pigs.

India should randomly start taking Norwegian citizens in India into custody. They should start with the Norwegian Ambassador. What Norwegian Government has done in this case is un acceptable.

If these were Isreali or American children, there would have been a military operation and the children would have been freed from their captors - the Norwegian Government.

Declaring war with Norway would be justified. But first India should try placing embargo on Norway and putting all norwegian citizens on Indian soil in custody.

India should immediately impose embargo and trade restrictions on Norway. Stop all trade with norway immediately, till the government of Norway returns the children they kidnapped.
