Ahmedabad, Oct. 29 -- Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi's potshots at union minister Shashi Tharoor's personal life has drawn sharp reaction on social networking platform Twitter.
"There was a Congress leader who was a minister in Parliament. He was accused of amassing wealth from cricket. He had said in Parliament that he is not connected to the Rs. 50 crore that in the lady's name," Modi said, asking "Have you ever heard of Rs. 50 crore girlfriend?"
Gujarat chief minister apparently referred the IPL controversy linked with Sunanda Pushkar, which resulted in Tharoor's resignation from the council of ministry as junior external affairs minister.
Modi's dig received severe flaks from the twitteratis, calling his statement "irresponsible and cheap."
A twitter user commented, "Narendra Modi has again proved how insane & uncivilized a person he is. He doesn't even know how 2 talk about a lady." Another comment came from "@pierrefitter : Dear Narendra Modi, you heard that one about glass houses? Attacking Tharoor's wife - not a great idea."
"Narendra Modi (on Mrs Shashi Tharoor): 'Have you seen a 50 crore girlfriend?' Actually, Mr Modi, we are still waiting to see your wife!" twitted another user.
"Did you expect anything decent from him? He will always disappoint you on civil behavior," twitted S Irfan Habib from @irfhabib handle.
"Just because Mr Modi has abandoned his own wife to rot in some village does not mean he gets the right to insult others wives," was the comment made by twitter handler @shantanub.
