London, Oct 15(ANI): British tennis star Andy Murray believes winning his first Grand Slam title at the US Open has helped him deal with defeats in a better manner after losing his Shanghai Masters final 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 to Novak Djokovic on Sunday.
Murray said he was exhausted after beating Roger Federer in the semifinals, but hailed the quality of the three-set match with the Serb.
"I'm obviously disappointed I lost but it was a top-quality match. Both of us played some unbelievable tennis at times. It was literally the difference of one, two centimetres in winning the match and losing it," the Daily Express quoted Murray, as saying.
"You have to put things into perspective. It was obviously a bit frustrating, but it was so close and could have been a different outcome. And, yeah, probably having won the US Open may help a bit with that, being able to deal with it a little better. But it's still obviously disappointing to lose," he added.
"Last year I came away from Asia with three tournament wins but I didn't win a Grand Slam and the Olympics. This has been kind of a big year. It didn't go necessarily as I would have liked today but this year I would have signed up for the way I played here and having won the US Open," he said.
Murray added: "Obviously, I would have liked to have turned that around. It was a disappointing one to lose. I have lost tougher matches than that before in the biggest events. So I'm sure I'll recover from it pretty well."
"I don't feel that frustrated right now. Maybe previously that wouldn't have been the case," he said. (ANI)
