Modi loses appeal

London: Lalit Modi has failed in his appeal against a �90,000 libel award to Chris Cairns over an accusation of match-fixing.

Cairns sued Modi earlier this year and won the case when a judge ruled the Indian "singularly failed" to provide any reliable evidence that the player was involved in match-fixing or spot-fixing, or even that there were strong grounds for suspicion that he was.

Calcutta: West Indies pacer Kemar Roach will miss the Test series against Bangladesh due to a knee injury. Fidel Edwards has been named as his replacement. West Indies team physiotherapist C.J. Clark described the injury as "a right medial hamstring tendon tear", which Roach sustained in a club match three weeks ago in his native Barbados.

Calcutta: CSA on Wednesday said that it had acceded to a request from Sri Lanka Cricket to split the 2013 tour. While the Test series is scheduled to be held in May/June, 2015, the ODI and T20I series will be held in 2013.

Anirban Nandi defeated Souvik Kar 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5 while Sutirtha Mukherjee beat Mousumi Paul 11-9, 9-11, 6-11, 14-12, 18-16, 11-7.
